This time is for you

Think about your goals. What do you want help with today? Clear out distractions. Get extra help for siblings (of human or canine variety) who will need attention during this time. Think about who you want to be there with you as a support person or if you want to be by yourself. Carve out some time and give yourself permission to focus on yourself and your baby.

Make a nest, or bring it with you

I recommend making a little “nest” for yourself if you don’t already have one—especially if you are pumping. A comfortable place to feed or pump with a hard surface nearby for tools, a water bottle, pump set-up, and blankets or pillows for ergonomic positioning.

What are your helpful tools right now? Have anything that’s helping or you’re wondering about handy. We can explore these things together. Some of these things might be: nipple shield, nipple ointment, pump flanges, bottles, supplementers, pacifiers.

We’re on baby time

There is no need to delay feeding your baby for our appointment. If they are full and sleeping when I arrive, we will work on other things first. Sometimes with very sleepy newborns or particular older babies, we do have to make a bit of an effort to get feeding to happen. I will defer to your judgement on what works best for your baby as it relates to getting the most out of this appointment.
